7 Little Things to Help During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Hey, friends. Life is pretty weird right now, huh? Surely it will return to normal at some point, but we really have no idea when. So, we might as well find the things that will help turn this hard time into an intentional and even perhaps joyful time. I’m going to share a few practical things that have been helpful to me.
1. See it as an opportunity. I know so many people are saying this, but it’s true. Our lives are generally so busy and often full of things we don’t even love. So use this time to do what you love (within your own house of course) and if you don’t know, then use it to figure out what you love. Have you been wanting to learn how to paint, do calligraphy, start a blog, make a garden, do a bible study? If you can do it at your house, then the opportunities are endless!
2. Take a walk. Seriously. Walks have been so helpful to me. Turn a podcast on (Journeywomen and Girls Night are my personal favs) and set out on a walk around your neighborhood. Even if you have to walk the same route twice, do it. Obviously stay close to your home and away from people, but get outside.
3. Believe this truth: you are not stuck in your home, you are safe in your home. The first time I heard it that way my perspective had a little shift. Choose to be thankful for the safe place you get to call home.
4. Read your bible and journal! I might have put it at number four, but it’s the most important thing. You are finally out of excuses to sit with the Lord. Write out all the things you are thinking and feeling during this time. Share your heart with Jesus. He is the only place you can find joy and peace. If you don’t know what to read in your bible just start with the Psalm that coincides with the date of that day. There is always encouragement to find in the Psalms.
5. Organize something. Another thing I know everyone else is saying, but it’s a good one. Ya know that closet or drawer you just keep cramming things in? Clean it out. Create the space you’ve been wanting by getting rid of what you don’t use or moving things to places where they will be used. You probably have something hidden somewhere that you totally forgot about.
6. Do some self-care. Use that face mask you bought and never did. Paint your nails. Do a foot soak. Take a bath with some bath salts. Read a fiction book.
7. Love on somebody. I know we can’t be with others, but we can write someone a letter or make a phone call. Even sending a text could be helpful. We all need each other.
Take heart, friend. This won’t last forever and God will be faithful through it all.
